Cold galvanized steel has a zinc coating painted on the steel surface to protect it from corrosion. The finishing will provide both a barrier defense and a galvanic security to help extend the life of the item. It can be applied with brushes, rollers, sprayers, or via electro-galvanizing. The paint includes special binders so it will mechanically bond to the steel
SGCC is one commonly utilized cold galvanized steel. SGCC material is hot dip zinc-covered steel for commercial top quality. The initial letter “S” represents steel, while “G” shows galvanization. The 3rd letter “C” refers to cold-rolled steel. That is, the base metal is CR steel. SGCC is a galvanized steel with good weldability and formability. It can have a pure zinc finish or a Zn/Fe alloy finish. SGCC steel is a suitable product for exterior applications.

Advantages
- Security in destructive environments with a barrier and potentially cathodic security for the steel.
- Surface areas are generally easy to clean

- Better than hot-dipped galvanization for little parts and parts
- Can topcoat without any added preparation
Disadvantages
- The surface area of the steel has to be clean and dry prior to application. This requires an additional step yet is much less demanding than hot-dipped applications
- Does not supply as great toughness, abrasion resistance, or cathodic security as hot-dipped galvanizing
- Physical damage can endanger the finish and result in deterioration
- Surface area can include spangles
